Some years ago while working together on some commercial applications he and I had very interesting ideas about using optical links in both commercial and amateur transmitter designs for the purpose of simplifying unwanted coupling between various stages including the matching problems that may sometimes arise. Opto-isolation is also quite useful in the practice of isolating direct galvanic coupling. Alan, I recall had some quite novel and interesting ideas (as he often has) and would be worth drawing into the discussion if you can prise him away from his other pretty consuming interests.
