Indeed the connector is identical to a GPIB connector, but with a subtle difference. The GPIB connector has two small bolts on the sides, allowing two connectors to be stacked and bolted together. This connector instead has two "ears", meant to be latched to the wire retaining clamps present on the female connector on the instrument's panel.
