Wolf,

Try setting the rig to 499.99kc and use the RIT to go up into the 501kc =
band. No more attenuator!!! That's what we do on 505-510kc here in the =
US.

  Armchair copy here in northwestern DL at the moment. The old TS-690 =
switches on an attenuator above 500 kHz (like the TS-850),   so no =
meaningful S-meter reading is possible.
  I am calling on 136.8 kHz to give you a "crossband-report".=20
