The one I have is the old Microsoft Quick Basic compiler (V4.22 I think), which compiles true DOS executables. Used with care it will generate executables that work in a DOS box from any version of Windows, although if you use graphics (it has very good graphics) most computers will only operate correctly with the program running full screen (but still under Windows). Comms seem to work OK even with Win XP, although you can only use COM1 and COM2. Have a look on my web site for examples of programs I've written. There's also a very good commercial program called POWER BASIC that allows very sophisticated true Windows programs to be written. Con ZL2AFP's DominoEX program is an example. POWER BASIC makes very small executables for a Windows system. I am sure there are other commercial programs as well. 73, Murray ZL1BPU
