They dont seem to do any harm, but....... I have some 7mm pre-stretched polyester slated MARINE yacht ropes, = made by British Ropes many years ago (1974). This is still doing sterling = service as guying on my tower after more than 30 years. It has darkened (usefull = as it "disappears" against the background of the trees) and does have a = greenish look where it is supporting a colony of algae, but it seems to have = not lost any of its strength. Its rated at about 1500pounds I think. I do use = draw rope for a light-weight mast but replace it regularly.
