The message from Jean-Louis seems to imply that Icom is not consistent in all of their rigs on that choice. I find much useful, to not make confusion, to use a graphical approach (in my mind): I just imagine the filter shape of the radio, with the suppressed carrier indicated by a red point, and the signal carrier as a vertical line which I mentally mode toward the red point. This line will or will not pass through the filter shape depending on the filter position relative to the red point. So, listening to the note coming from the speaker, I can, based also on the value of the initial position of that line, judge whether the filter is placed above or below the red point indicating the theoretical carrier...
