We do have a dark path to Magdeburg but only for an hour or so and the signal certainly peaked strongly over that time and disappeared smartly at our sunrise. However, it first appeared weakly at 1610Z when Magdeburg would still be well in daylight. I will reduce the dot length setting progressively over a few nights and report the results. I think the earlier report of possible DCF39 reception was by Steve Olney in VK. Mike ZL4OL
