Well, not quite so, I could do such things before because I work for Norwegian Telecomm and the companies knew that I was a potential customer for buying items for work, it doesn't apply for anybody else, but it is true that many are not aware of the possibilities they have as design engineers in a factory

Not correct (at least not in Belgium & Netherlands)
At QRL I order Farnell components just because they have no minimum order and no package/transport costs.
Once I had to repair equipment and ordered 1 single transistor that costs 0.1 Euro. It was delived next day at no extra cost.
