Many thanks to Stewart and several others who explained what went wrong with my e-mail for some subscribers to the reflector.

I emphasize that the formula can only be used within  distances from the transmitter where  the field strength decreases  in a linear way with distance and attenuation due to absorption by the ground can be neglected.

Hi Eric and all,

Dick's post, made with Eudora, contained this HTML fragment:

The correct formula is:<br><br>
P = 0.0111(E *d)</font><font size=1><sup>2</sup></font><font size=3> in which
...

Depending on your mail reader and/or browser, the superscript 2 may not
have displayed correctly.

The correct formula is: P = 0.0111 * (E * d) ** 2
or P equals 0.0111 times ((E times d) squared)

Hope this is clear.

Stewart
