The RA1792 (the following model from the 1772 perhaps) displays the actual frequency at the middle of the filter passband, then generates an audio frequency output as defined by the BFO setting, up to +/- 8kHz adjustable in 10Hz steps. It is on SSB where you need to tune 1kHz lower, and then the RA1792 allows you to use teh narrow filters and has passband tuning where what was the BFO readout now becomes an offset in the audio band.
