The much cheaper IC-706 can be made to work well on 136kHz. It certainly needs an LF pre-amp (build, or buy from G0MRF) for optimum performance. However, it has 1Hz tuning steps and my Mk1 is VERY stable indeed after a few seconds warm up. This makes it useful for, say 30s or 60s dot QRSS where long term stability of better than +/- 0.05Hz is needed. No problems with birdies or intermod. One disadvantage is that you can't turn off the AGC. Mike, G3XDV http://www.lf.thersgb.net ====================
