The smaller coils were demonstated in a darkened back room of the electricity hall, which is a metal building. The largest of these produced sparks about 12in (300mm) long. The large coils were used outside and fired up just as it was getting dark. All afternoon the site for this test was prepared by digging ditches for a cruciform shaped copper ground structure.
