When Jack started at 23.00, it was immediately obvious that it was he, but by the time I had messed about with settings, the first 10 minutes had gone. It is my experience and this again confirms it, that Spectrogram is better for Slow Morse, although perhaps I got the averaging wrong with Spectran. Then I saw that Alan had pipped me to the post and furthermore gave ideal settings. So they are not my settings, they are Alans. The complete set are: Sample Rate 5.5 kHz Range 90 dB, Gain 5 dB and I set -52.5 dB to yellow from the File Colour palette menu, to get good contrast. Time Scale 750 mS (another try with 500mS was not as good). FFT Point size 16k Band 770 - 856 to span 800. Spectrum Average 5. I didn't use the save but instead used the capture facility of Paint Shop Pro and then cropped out the call sign. Some of the success must also go to my new loop antenna (now that I have got the pre-amp sorted), which is performing really well (12 dB better) when there is no local QRM. With an OOO signal like this, you guys with 1W ERP should be able to make the 2-way soon. A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the great friends I have made in the Lowfer community.
