Your dual tone proposal is an excellent idea but suffers from one
major drawback for LF.  Being a dual tone sysytem, it requires a
linear transmitter.   If you could adapt the scheme to a single tone
only version, say by using two adjacent time slots, that would
overcome the linearity problem.  Listeners woud then have to remeber
teh position of teh first slot and mentally place this with the tone
of the second one.

Subject for a future Data column perhaps.   Most slots are filled, but
April 2009 may be available ;-)
