Call  for  Opera=20 users

There  is  a  unique =20 opportunity  to  participate  in  gathering =20 propagation  data  during  a solar eclipse, occurring,=20  during  the  morning  of  Friday  = 20 =20 March   0800z  to  1200z.

The  = Opera =20 system is  well  suited to  the requirements =   and in=20 liaison  with the  RSGB project  coordinator , Steve = G0KYA ,=20 Opera  mode  is  added  to  the  list = of =20 experiments.

User participation: A change from = the=20 normal

Its requested  MF and 160=20  participating  stations , elect  to  be  = either =20 Tx  or  Rx  only ,

Due to = the  short=20 length of the  event, round 4  hours, to  maximise =20 the  quantity and quality the of data  produced  from = the =20 477KHz and 1.8 MHz bands,

Tx = Stations are=20 requested to send at 100% no beacon timer and no CW i/d,

Rx = Stations are=20 requested to maintain =91Fixed band=92 watch over the time window. =

[Rx = Stations , =20 Copy  and  paste  the  local  decode  = results=20 to  text  file  as  back up to  the  = PSK-Map =20 data  base]

Three sections of the spectrum are of = particular=20 interest:-

MF      477 KHz = /=20 OP8    Tx @ 100%  No  CW ID

HF      =20 1.8MHz  / OP4 ,  Tx @ 100%  No  CW ID

HF       = 3.5 MHz /=20 OP2  , 7 MHz / OP2    Normal =20 operations

One of = the =20 main  areas of  interest is the   North /  = South =20 path  straggling  the  line  of Totality, this  = being  roughly central to  a  1000  mile  path = from=20 the  UK/EU to  Iceland.

MF: = 477KHz=20 =91Totality Path=92: Halldor  TF3HZ   has undertaken = to =20 establish a web-linked Rx monitor   for  477KHz  = OP8 =20 and  will  set up  in the  week  previous = to =20 the  event.

MF: = 477KHz  Inter  =91UK / EU=92: Stations are also  invited = to =20 join the  experiment ,  noting  , Tx / Rx stations =20 are  requested to  follow  the  100% Tx =20 and   Rx  continuous  availability.

HF Bands

Opera  is =20 one of  many  systems to  be  deployed  = during =20 the  event  on HF .

1.8  OP4  Operations  requested = to =20 follow  the  MF 477 KHz  format

3.5  and  7 MHz bands ,  = deploying =20 OP2  mode ,  normal  operations
