No there is no external clock or = rational frequency=20 number required, any stable frequency will do. The term coherent = should=20 refer to phase continuity across the gaps, so the AM spectrum will = contain=20 a distinct and narrow central peak.

Also, as to the = coherent=20 aspect- is this just an accurate transmit frequency or are the = individual 'bits'=20 for lack of a better term synched to an external clock such as GPS = derived=20 standard. I'm thinking that this may be related to Coherent CW = (CCW)?
