The replacement for the now obsolete 3C85 is the 3C90 material. The characteristics appear very similar to the 3C85, indeed looking at the graphs it's difficult to find many differences. Permeability is the same, Frequency response is similar It can work to a slightly higher temperature. But the major improvement is that the material has lower losses. The distributor has confirmed it's available in all the popular sizes ( 15 25 42 and 58mm) and should be a drop in replacement. For the 'big men' with 'big towers', there's a new section of the book dealing with cores for particle accelerators. Anyone for a core 500mm diameter? The only down side, having finally got use to the red 3C85, is that the colour coding for the 3C90 is described as "Aquamarine and white"...Sunglasses at the ready. 73 David
