Yes 2m tuning high to low aaah those were the days.

It may be an advantage to have the US in one band=A0and EU in another to=
 avoid=20
local powerful stations blotting DX. It makes=A0it effectively a=A0bigger=
 band as=20
well. So there may be a plus to this idea?

The logic is that if the commercial interests in only one region=20
objects to the proposed common frequency the whole proposal falls. It=20
is up to the amateur service in each region to work out what they=20
feel would have the greatest chance of success. Ideally there should=20
be a worldwide allocation, but we have lived with split bands before,=20
and in fact voluntarily split our own bands on a geographical basis.
