In which mode / bandwidth? QRSS-3 should work in that distance, the far 
field border :-)

I'm receiving with a loop and am transmitting with a inv-L. This is not 
optimal in 3.5 km distance. I'm already arranging things for a E field 
receiver there. First tests were done a few days ago. It is for my 970 
Hz experiments...

Yes but that rather appiles to HF and VHF i think. I have not had 
problems on 137 kHz using PVC, unless it stays DRY!!

Another big advantage seems to be the use of the Kapton tape i mentioned 
a few times now. It greatly helps to prevent surface erosion by arcing. 
My new 8270 Hz coil is wound on PVC using the Kapton tape inbetween. The 
coil was on air at ~ 30 kV (rms) for more than 100 hours now and i can 
see no trace of erosion at all, although i have been on air during rain 
/ high air humidity.
