BTW Joe,

Would you set up a VLF grabber / monitoring station on your side to 
receive signals from DL? It is a bit easier i think, no pilot tones and 
such stuff. Direct reception with a simple soundcard. You will however 
need to build a preamp and low pass filters and such stuff...
