Hi Michel, Markus, MF,

Michel, nice to meet you here via email. Thanks for your efforts to
listen on 630m. My congrats to your/our success. RXwise and TXwise, your
location is the best antenna! There is no amateur radio band in which a
location close to the sea is so important than 630m i think. Anyway i
did not expect that this path is possible regularly for radio amateurs.
Many years we saw now that good results can be obtained arround Europe.
But it becomes very hard to cross 2000km on a land path (seen by
detections from Russian stations beeing close to Moscow). Transatlantic
detections between EU and NA are highly affected by geomagnetic
activity. But the TA path is possible in winter and in June (along the
greyline). This is what i learned and observed since 2012 on that band.
Then there have been very rare events (constructive QSB) where
detections above 8000km have been made, maybe 1 in 2 years, the most
popular is VK1DSH -> F6CNI/BOG.
Obviously it is just to a lack of stations in certain locations why my
impression of what is possible on that band is so limited (ok, there are
NDBs but that's not my world). So now it's good that we both and others
can try that path!
The best is: We managed a 2nd decode this night!
Timestamp Call MHz SNR Drift Grid Pwr Reporter RGrid km az
  2015-10-30 23:54 DK7FC 0.475683 -26 0 JN49ik 1 FR5ZX
  LG78pu 9095 137

So it is not soooooo rare, it rather looks like the path is possible
regularly ??
At least it is worth to try regularly now to learn more about the
availability of that path!!!
It is worth for you to build a directional antenna and worth for me/us
to stay up arround 0...1 UTC and run a higher power and transmit
intervals to see what is possible. I was TXing each 10 minutes (20%).
Maybe i'll try with 50% this night arround that time if you are QRV.

If THIS is possible, now even with -26 dB SNR, what else could be
possible on this planet and frequency? :-) A south path (not to close to
the polar region(s)) seems to promise many surprises...

Let's see what's possible tonite...

What are your plans to improve the performance of your station? Do you
have any? I can recommend to try a simple resonated toop as an
alternative antenna. I have very good results with loops. And the null
of the loop will point to Africa, which is most probably an advantage...

73, Stefan/DK7FC

PS: Maybe you want to join the LF reflector to announce your experiments
and discuss about various RX antennas and experiences? Informations on
how to subscribe can be found on my qrz.com page and maybe somewhere
else. There are several French stations here as well :-)
