Hm, i don't understand all of what you're writing here. No idea of that 
unix stuff but more general, what exaxtly are you doing at all?
Raspi, OK, understood.
Which kind of data do you transfer? A certain RF spectrum? From which to 
which frequency? What kind is the ADC? Are you using a ready to use USB 
soundcard or a single ADC connected to the RPI, via SPI oder so? Data 
rate, bits, SNR?
Streaming via cable or via a RF link?
I have to ask more detailed when my project is running too...
