Hi Lawrence, probably you could use the lowest-frequency alpha station for=
 calibration purposes.

I heard from Wolf that he was working on a built-in frequency calibration=
tool for SpectrumLab but I don't know about current progress.

I have so much noise at my sub-urban location that I have almost renounced=
to receive something interesting below 10KHz. VLF gentlemen here in this=
group suggested that I switch on a different solution that is to find a=
 quieter place far from civilization :-) A portable E-probe plus a digital=
recorder should be a better setup for me in that case...

Cheers

D.

Stefan, Xtain, Danielle, Bob - thanks for the comments -

On the QRM from the PC - no I dont get any (problematic) unless the loop=
 is within 3 metres or so of the loop - I have a 15m length of RG58 50 ohm=
coax to the loop and the background iono/qrn masks any noise that I comes=
from the unit - Ill take some screen shots and publish.=20
=20
Even some 400m from the nearest power line I can see 60Hz harmonics and so=
me PLC stuff so Ill have to go out into the Plains a bit further.=20
=20
The aim perhaps is to look for W1VLF or other signals (yourselves) sometim=
e in the future -
=20
I did some VLF receiving stuff is Asia Pacfic countries over the past few=
years - an example from China http://kl1x.com/vlfchina.jpg and from the=
Polar regions some 30 years ago.
=20
=20
I didnt get a lot of time last night as I was getting bitten by mosquitoes=
and was wearing short trousers but we had thunderstorms to our West which=
spoilt any long distance reception -so much so that Alphas werent visible=
 - The normal US and some other VLF stations were good enough. Ill wait fo=
r a quieter time and smother myself with "bug dope" but the loop/preamp wa=
s producing good results (its very very quiet) -
=20
I used the loop right next to the Television to calibrate the receiver lo=
oking at the sync but I need to revisit this given some of the comments ab=
out digital TV's.
