The fact remains that you, with your superior expertise, could detect "not
a trace of any sideband noise".

You didn't say in your original, usually terse, message whether at your
distance they were "interfering with other BC stations or Navtex".

I'm not surprised they weren't, for you.

You in fact said there was "not a trace of any sideband noise" which is a
different statement altogether. It hints at a more scientific quantitative
approach. Using sensitive equipment might show traces of spurious noise or
spectral broadening, even though there's no real interference to the
acceptable reception of adjacent BC or Navtex signals, if they are strong
enough to overcome the low level of interference, at your location.

There undoubtedly was a problem with the transmitter concerened.

What was the purpose of your email indicating that you couldn't detect
these problems?

All it showed was that despite reportedly receiving a "S9" signal you were
incapable of analysing this "Extremely Strong" BC signal, which was, at
the admission of those responsible, suffering gross over modulation and
spectral broadening.

You would have been better to have said nothing.

The engineering staff at the station concerened have now reduced the
modulation depth (although to a rather low level of 40%, symmetrical, with
no DCC, at present), and the spectral occupancy has fallen to a normal, or
slightly narrow, 4.8kHz, as measured off air here this morning.

Keep bashing your morse key on top band.

Leave the experimentation and technical work to those more capable.
