There are a few SDR programs that works with such a front end, for example I2PHD's Winrad. Considering how narrow these bands are, there is no need for a VFO. Just use a crystal oscillator for LO and do the tuning in the software. Perseus is indeed a very good receiver, and it is a lab' instrument as well. I will *never* regret buying that "appliance"! ;-) The Perseus itself is very quiet but whenever a computer is involved in the receiving process, beware of the potential noise sources... Here is a horror story about my Dell laptop: http://web.telia.com/~u33233109/dellpsu/dellnoise.html 73 de Johan SM6LKM John RABSON wrote: > My receiver for this band is a Lowe HF250 with a 2m x 2m loop (estimated effective height 8 m). It received G3XIZ surprisingly well on Sunday even though the selectivity of the receiver leaves something to be desired and there is a crossmodulation problem with longwave broadcast. > > I'm thinking of getting something better, such as an SDR (Perseus?).
