Gary,

indeed the process should be automated.
But as you mention SpecLab has a selectable compression rate for the =20
jpeg screen captures.
The upload steam could be further reduced by uploading only the =20
"recent part" of the screen grab and composing the picture on the web =20
site from a number of grabs. Should be possible with JavaScript.
