Litz wire consists of many fine insulated strands of wire. These strands are platted into braids, each braid consisting of from 9 - 35 strands. These braids in turn are platted to form Litz wire.

Earlier I used similar methods to those proposed by Rik and Mal. But now I use a method which appears to me to be more effective and quicker and most importantly without so unpleasant a smell, hi!
<br />

<br />
It consists of the following:
<br />
- remove any synthetic or silk covering from about 3cm at the end of the Litz,
<br />
- unwind the braids (in Russian Litz usually 5 - 7 - …),
<br />
- carefully unwind the strands making up each braid,
<br />
- fill a small metal or glass vessel of about 10 - 20 ml with spirit,
<br />
- light a small spirit lamp (or liquid spirit or use solid spirit tablets),
<br />
- hold the last 1- 3 mm of each braid in the flame of the spirit lamp,
<br />
- burn off the lacquer from the strands (in Russian Litz, this is usually an unstable natural lacquer) for a length of 1 - 2 cm. Further heating causes the strands to glow a light red colour. Don't do this for more than a few seconds.

-Immediately douse the end of the braid in the spirit vessel. The wire takes on a nice red colour of finished copper for a length of  1 - 1.5cm.
<br />
The main thing is that it is immediately possible to tin it using simple rosin and very easy to achieve.
<br />
Sometimes the spirit in the vessel can catch fire - just cover the vessel with something and the flame will go out.
<br />
- repeat the above for each braid of the Litz.

In place of spirit you can use the gas flame of a kitchen stove.
<br />
My wife likes this method a lot (especially when it is necessary to tin a lot Litz) she even lets me bring the soldering iron into the kitchen.

- while I am busy with this we can talk over our problems, hi! As as result of my hobby this doesn't happen very often …. hi!

You can practice tinning by this method on bits of Litz, but I think that after 2 -3 attempts you will already be good at it
