Content preview: Hi Stefan, VLF, I too built a similar preamp using the LT1028 but instead of a multiturn loop, I used a fat monoturn loop and a toroid transformer. The loop has a diameter of about 1 meter and is made of a piece of rigid 11 mm coaxial cable. It is very sensitive on 8970 Hz and definetely requires a quiet location. The toroid comes from a salvaged PSU. The loop is the primary winding while the secondary was about 60 turns. Using the same preamp/transformer and a 20 centimeter loop, I was able to receive SAQ and RSDN20.
