He is located on Cape Cod in Eastern Massachusetts on the coast and there were no reports of lightning anywhere on the East Coast at that time. His location is 1500 miles from Texas. Maybe just a coincidence but he has not heard that type of sound before; they were so unusual that he became curious and tuned to a station to find out it "anything" had happened and heard that Columbia had just lost contact.
