Ive noticed on 500/477 that some times , areas become no-go at times , not too sure as to why , may be some of L's , pesky protons turn up in the wrong place ? skip is very defined as well , strange ,bit like 6 meters . Opera was designed to run on standard ham kit tx/rx set ups . the test 'CW' waveform was the 20 wpm self test from the Racal MA1723 , which has envelope shaping , the DSP samples at a much higher rate than the TX baud rate , so pulses , static etc only affects a small % of the signal , its not possible to 'loose lock' as each pulse is self syncing Yes .. Rf can be fascinating. , unless its just set fire to the shed or producing purple flames , at the end of the Ae ) On frequency ?, no such thing with the Opera system . as long as the carrier is inside the red-lines on the waterfall or a few Hz in from the band edges , then that's all that is needed , best to keep away from the dead-centre, that can be a little busy , a guard band of 3 or 5 Hz should be enough, may be a little in from the band edges as well to allow for RX off sets Phase and ultra stability , that's only for the Train-Spotters and 'Pixel' deep sea monsters from below 2000 mtrs :) the DSP will take care of drift / phase and envelope distortion ,noting that narrow filters will reduce the minimum decode levle , due to 'ringing' and slew the s/n , which is based on 2.4 KHz ssb b/w The ras-pi project is suffering from distributed attention , Dave seems to of fixed memory leakage and other strange attributes , the last air-tests produced quite good signals , but its only one of many things , hes linked to , on the brighter side , the latest issue of the U3 , has opera and can be programmed for multi mode sequential beacons , allowing wspr+opera etc , next is linking to the psk-map to show tx activity ..
