Thanks to all who responded to my query about a well casing being a suitable ground for a 136 kHz. Marconi antenna.  Measurement seems to be the definative answer to whether or not it will work.  I don't plan on transmitting just yet, as I'm only a newby on the LF scene and want to see what winter will bring receiving-wise before I even think about producing RF.  Perhaps a loop transmit antenna would be more effective given my poor soil conditions here.  Thanks again!
