Hi LF'ers

The RSGB will again this year be running the HF Conference HFC2005 at the 
Gatwick Worth Hotel just outside Crawley in Sussex over the weekend 
7/8/9October and the special event station MB2HFC will be operating on the 
HF bands and also on 136khz over the weekend.

Crawley Amateur Radio Club will be providing logistic support to the 
conference including deploying a variety of HF antennas including an HF beam 
at 20m AGL and several E/H antennas for comparison.

We also plan to erect a 136khz station with a 1KW ex-Decca amplifier and 
FT100MP as prime- mover. The transmitting antenna will be 20m vertical wire 
with two 40m top loading wires spaced about 2m apart. Experience gained from 
last year's event showed that the hotel has a high local electrical noise 
level on LF so we are unlikely to be able to use the TX ant on receive -  we 
also have Loran QRM to contend with!   Jim M0BMU has kindly volunteered  to 
deploy his double- nulling loop receiving antenna hopefully in a quiet spot 
outside in the grounds away from the main sources of electrical noise.  We 
also intend to have a back-up receiver system by taking 136khz signals the 
local MB7LF remote receiver at the Crawley Club HQ relayed via 2m at 
144.986Mhz (which equates to 136.000 kHz). The 2m receiver will have an LO 
source from a high-stability ovened source checked against the MSF national 
frequency standard.

We expect to be QRV much of the time much over the weekend both on hand-CW 
and QRSS from Friday evening onwards (7th Oct) through to Sunday mid-day 
(9th Oct) depending on availability of operators - we will also be attending 
some of the lectures from time to time. Any delegates attending the 
conference wishing to have an operating spell on 136Khz will be most 
welcome.  Contact me, G3GRO,  in the Hotel or Jim M0BMU or any of the 
Crawley stewards on duty at the time.
