If you have not built and engineered the complete package including antennas for LF/ MF you are at a disadvantage when it comes to advice. As you say this cannot be a serious debate because you are not experienced in the subject. However, the licence PERMITS me to radiate a signal should I so wish. I am thereby allowed choice. For many of us, the experimentation and self-training aspects are primary. I also consider myself to have, by now, satisfied my competitive cravings and contest scores/qsl cards/dxcc etc. pursuits. By continuing to denigrate the activities of others who do not share your particular enthusiasms and prejudices you fail dismally to enthuse newcomers and demonstrate a very narrow-minded view of the world of amateur radio about you. Oh, and by the way I can think of at least one well-known radio amateur who rarely "transmits" but has made a major and recognised contribution to propogation studies at LF. My licence permits me to do many things but nowhere do I read an instruction to "transmit". Or perhaps you believe that I should only have an "old fashioned" artificial aerial permit? I'm getting rather fed up with this dialogue which hardly even qualifies as sensible debate. 73 de Pat g4gvw QTH Near FELIXSTOWE, UK Thought for today: What politicians do for science, hopefully science will do for them one day! -----Original Message----- From: mal hamilton To: rsgb Sent: Wed, 13 Aug 2008 19:22 Subject: LF: Activity 500 Khz Theere seems to be a lot of opinions and rheotric here on the reflector about LF and MF but I have never heard these stations actually transmitting on the bands, so I would guess they are not in a position to express an opinion. Surely I am not the only one capable of building and operating a CW station in the20UK/EU on 136 and 500 khz.
