I am told some fishing vessels in Europe still use MF ....I will ping Finbar at Malin Head CG station. Often the Spanish trawlers calling him are way beyond VHF range. There is of course Navtex around 518 still usually using "loaded" whips, more probably e-probes. It would also seem that Loran-C is still live and well and here again I believe the prefered antenna is an "e-probe" Cheers de Alan G3NYK ----- Original Message ----- From: To: ; Cc: Steve McDonald Sent: 09 June 2007 20:15 Subject: Re: LF: MF Still on shifp? > Steve, > > Don't know, probably static or hams these days! > I wonder if some reason cruise ships have retained the capability while tankers and freighters have phased out 500kHz. > > > -- > 73 Warren K2ORS/WD2XGJ/WD2XSH/23/WE2XEB/2 > FN42hi > http://www.w4dex.com/wd2xgj.htm > > -------------- Original message ---------------------- > From: "Steve McDonald" > > > > >they still had 500kHz equipment and were still monitoring! > > > > Which begs a further question...listening to what?
