Hi Martin ,
I am using = a rather old=20 Kenwood TS940 with Dave,s pre- amp which performs very well with a built = in 270=20 Hz crystal-filter combined with the built in Audio Peak Filter which = reduces a=20 lot of noise .The S-meter calibration will be 50 microvolts for S9 if = you put an=20 adjustable attenuator ( a simple potmeter will do )  between the = pre-amp=20 and the receiver .
I think = this goes for a=20 lot of other tranceivers as well like the TS430 and TS440 with CW = filters built=20 in and outside Audio Peak Filters . I also tried the G0MRF preamp = in front=20 of a Yaesu FT847 but the 847 is so deaf on 137Khz. that the gain of the = pre-amp=20 is insufficient which is a pity as the receiver of the 847 is doing a = fair job=20 with the built in 500Hz Mech. filter in combination with the adjustable = bandwith=20 control in the LF DSP  on the HF bands .
