The repeater episode is correct.
In the South a repeater was installed 137Kcs/146 Mcs so in effect some of
those active on 137 in the South were actually receiving on 146 Mcs and not
directly on 137 Kcs. Others in the South still around could give you more
detailed information.
I suppose it over came receiving difficulties for some and no different
today from Grabbers and other remote RX sites.
It could lead to cheating watching a signal on a remote that you cannot
hear/see at the home qth and having a QSO.
