My guess would be a negative plunge. An incoming disturbance usually raises
the horizontal part of the geomag field, and then it drops rapidly, with a
slow recovery. So a sharp up-tick can be a sign of a downward movement to
follow. Or it could be a measurement anomaly! This index frequently doesn't
bear close watching, which is why the results get revised before they are
"officially" used.
