Experiment

Wound a bundle of ferrite rods (9) with 1 mm = enamel wire=20 and got 900 uH approx inductance. I connected this via coax to my Datong = up=20 converter IF 144 Mhz to my normal RX. ( the datong resonated the ferrite = antenna=20 ) there was pick up and signals audible but they were down 9 S points = compared=20 with my 40 metre vertical loop antenna.
I tried the this ferrite antenna both vertical = es=20 horizontal in the horizontal plane it did show directional properties. = It was=20 working but the signal capture was vy poor.
A pre amp would probably have improved the = sensitivity and=20 maybe that is the answer but by itself it is no good.
