MMmm I dont know about that "echo" but I have seen similar effects when two stations (or carriers) operate very close together and ARGO shows a "beat" between them......but a mod phase shift??.....very odd. As to the aurora for the rapid fading....yes it is a possibility that should not be dismissed without some study. I had discounted it on the grounds that the period of the rapid fading seems very constant over a time of 8 to 10 hours. I thought it unlikely that the auroral curtain would be able to provide such a "high Q" effect, and was drawn to some kind of resonance explanation. The auroral curtain seems to move in a much more random way....but I am not really able to investigate that from here. There will be some form of connection as the aurora will be visible at the time of the CME collision......fascinating....... I suppose the answer would be to listen to the signal, as if strong enough the signal should also have that characteristic "growl" on it ?? if some component of it was via a reflection from the curtain.
