This also applies to the loop aerials, which should be tuned (resonated) for maximum sensitivity to weak stations. I am surprised you are having trouble with signals so far removed in frequency from 136kHz. I have to contend with Rugby 16kHz 0.5MW and MSF 60kHz 50kW, Droitwich 198KkHz at 200kW, Loran at 300kms, and BBC WS on 1296kHz at 20kms and 500kW, and a local BC station on about 1215kHz 1kW at 2kms. None of these give any detectable problem on my Rx with a tuned aerial. I do not have the need to use even an band-pass filter for 136. My RX response has been sufficiently sensitive to receive the Canadian test transmission from VA3LK and VE1ZZ. My 70m long inverted 'L' is resonated with a 2mH 30cm diameter solenoid coil tuned by inserting a single (BC rx type) ferrite rod. I look forward to hearing you on your next expedition Ed.
