Glad Dave/MM0ALM is making it across to Jack. That is a good sign and
probably the first time a signal from the UK has actually been heard in VE
on 136 khz.
I will be in GI/TYRONE again in February and hope to try a qso with Jack if
he is available then. The Tyrone qth is ideal, out in the country, no
environmental noise and acres of space for antennas and a good ground
system. It is only 5 miles west of Lough Neagh and 40 miles from the North
Atlantic coast. That should be an added advantage with all that water.
Maybe we should get an expedition together. The antenna mast is already
installed and 120 ft high. An alternative qth would be on the beach at
Portstewart. This beach is 6 miles long and parking of vehicles is permitted
all the year round. Kites or balloons could be used to support a vertical.
There is a requirement to inform Aldergrove ATC so that a NOTAM can be
issued for the area when the event is taking place.
Further round the coast to the West is another even larger beach area with
vehicle access for 8 miles at Benone. At this site there is a possibility of
the kite if high enough and at the right angle overflying Donegal in EI out
towards Finbar !!!!!!!!!
The shack in GI and the antenna in EI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Could be
interesting. Two countries worked for the price of one !!!!!!!!
